Thursday Things I’m Learning...Designing (Re-Designing) My Life/ Work/Life

I have been restless lately. That is not new. Enneagram 8…my MVS is RED-BLUE, curiosity, and connection are two of my top 5 Strengthfinders Results. My big beautiful Birkman, that’s a whole other amazing conversation for another day.

When I get restless, I look around for wisdom, new perspectives and seizing the opportunity to try out some new ideas and re-evaluate what’s working (and not working) in my life.

That’s the cycle of growth, maturity, and a touch of ADHD for me.

Sometimes I get caught up in what everyone else is doing and I find myself in someone else’s lane, stumbling and running out of energy and motivation. That’s also been happening lately.

I have a terrific coach I meet with regularly. (And I am a professional coach, so I practice what I preach!). In our last conversation, he mentioned a book and I was intrigued.

And I bought the book. Well, three copies of the book (and the workbook).

In fact, I bought those extra copies for my two newest students. Also, know as progeny #2 and #3 who are transitioning from being high school students and employed to COVID-19 unemployed homebodies and fairly discouraged job seekers.

We are just into chapters 2 but can I share with you something great I am learning so far?

They suggest keeping a Good Work Journal, which one might call a gratitude journal or simply a journal. But I love the three writing prompts they suggest to daily reflect on and record:

  1. What did I learn?

  2. What did I initiate?

  3. Who did I help?

I especially like #2 because I often forget the creative work I do or purposeful conversations I may start. I tend to minimize the value of those contributions to the people around me and the work I am doing. I also think #3 is great because serving others is a high value for me, it’s the core of how I want to show up and align my life.

How are you doing these days fellow human?

Are you a bit restless too? Looking for some alignment or a new challenge? Maybe you just need to take a deep breathe *exhale* and simply notice what is going on inside you.

That’s it, deep breath.

If you pick up this book and want to chat, I am all over that. I love to be in the thick of deep shifts (you thought I was going to say something else, didn’t you?) with fellow wanderers.

Still showing up, B XO
